A group of fans updated the original Maniac Mansion into Maniac Mansion Deluxe.
Kings Quest I and II VGA remake
These are classic adventure games, and and I spent a good chunk of my youth playing graphic adventure games. It's amazing that a group of fans can remake a game like this.
And of course, I can't end this without a mention of this story of a man who has played Galaxian for 2 hours a night since 1980.

Some fans made an unofficial sequel to King's Quest, and were going to give it away for free to anyone who wanted it, but Vivendi Universal Games just shut them down. More info on that website.
