Shooting in the Dark

My first couple of experiments with night photographs were abysmal failures, which actually encouraged me to go out and learn more about night photography. Because I was out in the darkness in the early hours of the day, I decided to make use of my tripod and camera and managed to get some nice shots of the heavens above.

pretty nice moon! got a look at your 4th of july fireworks pics. too. good use of the bulb setting. did you use a tripod, or did you just hold your breath?

Thanks!

Regarding the Fourth of July pictures, I did use a tripod. There were two things I changed in phototaking technique. The first was changing exposure time -- instead of using a bulb setting, I used 1/8000 of a second. The second change, was setting the timer on the camera to shoot instead of me holding down the button (which eliminated the camera shake that was so present in my fourth of july pictures). These changes work great for a stationary slow-changing object like a moon, but I'm sure fireworks will still prove a challenge.
